‘Beneath White Deserts’ – Hillary King

‘Beneath White Deserts’ quadriptych, acrylic, watercolor, colored pencil on wood panels – Hillary King, 2016

‘Beneath White Deserts’ was part of the Arctic Perspectives art-science show at the 2016 Arctic Science Summit at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. The project supported my travel to Kotzebue, Alaska to collect ice cores with microbiological oceanographer Dr. Eric Collins of UAF. “Beneath White Deserts” was inspired by the images I gathered from the ice samples, landscapes, and my expanded understanding of oceanic life chains.
